International Education Week: November 17-21, 2014

Thank you to everyone who celebrated International Education Week with us! International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.  There are many study abroad programs through Moraine Park.

On all three campuses, students and staff had the opportunity to enjoy samples of tasty international treats and listen to music from around the world during the week's celebrations. At the same time, students learned about resources and opportunities through the Multicultural Club and International Education. Thank you to Student Senate for their support!

Music in Memory Program

Students from Brenda Schaefer's ethics course went to Harbor Haven last week to help with the Music in Memory Program.  This program allows residents to have the option of music versus medication when they are upset. The students discussed the ethical implications involved in music versus medication and did a great job interacting with the residents, loading the iPods and making a difference in our community!  Way to go students!

German Students Visit Moraine Park

Willkommen! As part of our ongoing exchange program with Darmstadt, Germany, Moraine Park Technical College welcomed 17 German students and two German instructors to campus last week. Every year, Moraine Park faculty, staff and students serve as host families to their German counterparts. In addition to attending classes at Moraine Park and interacting with students, the guests have previously participated in several exciting events such as the Green Lake Harvest Days Festival, a Mecan River canoe trip, an overnight stay at Blue Harbor Water Resort, tours through Mercury Marine, visits to Fox Lake Correctional Facility, trips to Michels Corporation and Kohler, and other experiences, which change each year to provide new opportunities. The German students are also able to present to classes and share their knowledge, culture, and career fields.

The students and faculty were welcomed with a meal prepared by Culinary Arts students at Moraine Park. In May, Moraine Park students will visit Germany! For more images of our German visitors as well as our own students' travels to Germany last summer, visit our Facebook page

MPTC's latest service-learning project

The Great Pink Pumpkin Run will be held on Saturday, October 18 at 10 a.m. on Moraine Park’s Fond du Lac campus. This event was planned by a Business Practice Firm course in the spring semester of last year and has been carried through with this year's class and six other program area courses. The idea was generated from one of MPTC's business instructors, Jeff Stueber, who has a passion for helping the community and we collaborated with other program instructors to enhance the activities at the upcoming event.

Just to give you an idea of the collaborative program courses involved: Graphics Design students originated the motivational posters that you will see under the Photos/Inspiring Posters tab on the website below, Culinary Arts will be making pink pumpkin cookies to sell at the event, cosmetology students will be providing pink hair extensions and nail polish, early childhood students will be providing children's activities, medical assistant students are doing free blood pressure screening, and the corrections program will be helping man traffic and safety issues, and student senate are helping paint the 200 pumpkins.  We even grew our own pumpkin patch!!

MPTC Culinary Arts Students Provide Fondue at Fond du Lac's Fondue Fest

Moraine Park's Culinary Arts students donated their time and talents by providing delicious cheese and chocolate fondue along with various breads at this year's Fondue Fest in downtown Fond du Lac on September 6.  The event was a success as the fondue sold out and the students were able to raise money to support their culinary club activities.
